Privacy Policy
The short version
- We keep no copy of your contacts. They stay in your phone’s address book.
- There is no ChronoContacts account and no login.
- The app contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK.
- “Where we met” reads your location when you add a contact, if you allow it, and stores the result on your device.
- This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.
This policy covers the ChronoContacts mobile app for iOS and Android, and this website. It sits alongside Prodevel’s company privacy policy, which covers our business as a whole. Where the two differ about ChronoContacts, this policy applies, because the app works differently from our other products: it has no accounts and keeps your data on your device.
Who we are
ChronoContacts is made by Prodevel Ltd, a company registered in the United Kingdom (company number 11202535, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, London WC2H 9JQ). Prodevel Ltd is the data controller for the limited personal data described below.
For anything about ChronoContacts, email chronocontacts@prodevel.co.uk. For company-wide data protection questions, email info@prodevel.co.uk.
Your contacts stay on your device
ChronoContacts reads and writes your device’s native contacts store, meaning the iOS Contacts database or the Android Contacts Provider. That store remains the source of truth for your contacts, exactly as it is when you use your phone’s built-in Contacts app.
Contact names, phone numbers and email addresses are not copied to a server. They are read from your device when the app is open, displayed to you, and written back only when you add, edit or delete a contact yourself. We never receive them, so there is no server-side copy of your address book to secure, share or hand over.
Notes are the one thing that goes into the contact itself, in its notes field. Tags do not.
Data the app creates
Some things your phone does not record, so ChronoContacts keeps them itself, in a database file on your device:
- Added-on dates. When the app first saw each contact, or the real date where iOS can supply one. See About the dates.
- Tags you create and apply. These are not written into your address book.
- “Where we met”. Coordinates and a place label, recorded when you add a contact in the app.
- Activity timestamps. When you last opened a contact, and when you last called or emailed them from the app. These power the sort views.
- App settings. Your theme, your chosen sort order, whether anniversary reminders are on, and the state of your trial or subscription.
All of this stays on your device. It is not synced to us. Your device’s own backup may include it, as it does for other apps.
Location
When you add a contact in the app, ChronoContacts asks your phone for a coarse position fix and sends those coordinates to your phone’s built-in geocoding service (Apple’s on iOS, Google’s on Android) to turn them into a neighbourhood label such as “Shoreditch, London”. That lookup is handled by the operating system under Apple’s or Google’s own privacy policy, not by us, and we never see the result.
The coordinates and the label are then stored on your device against the contact. The app asks for “when in use” location permission the first time. If you decline, or if the fix or the lookup fails, the contact saves without a place and nothing else changes.
Subscriptions
ChronoContacts Pro is sold through the App Store and Google Play. We use RevenueCat to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives purchase and device information from the store to do that, and processes it on our behalf under its own privacy policy.
We never see or collect your card details. Apple and Google take the payment under your existing store account and tell us only whether an entitlement is active. We cannot connect a subscription to a person, because the app holds no name or email for you.
Permissions the app asks for
- Contacts. Required. Without it the app has nothing to show. You can withdraw it at any time in your device settings, and the app will then stop reading your address book.
- Location, when in use. Optional, and used only to record where you were when you add a contact. Decline it and everything else works.
- Notifications. Optional, and used only to deliver anniversary reminders. They are scheduled on the device, not pushed from a server.
What we do not collect
- No account. There is nothing to sign up for, so we hold no name, email address or password for you.
- No analytics or crash-reporting SDK. The app does not bundle one. We do not collect who is in your address book, what you tag them, where you met them, or who you set reminders for.
- No advertising. The app carries no ads and no advertising identifiers.
- No sale or sharing of personal data. We hold none of it to sell.
Apple and Google do give us the reports every developer gets: download counts, crash reports and store performance. Those arrive as aggregate figures and are not tied to you.
Legal bases for processing
Under the UK GDPR we rely on the following, and only for the narrow set of data we actually receive:
- Contract. Checking that your subscription is active, so we can provide the Pro features you paid for.
- Legitimate interests. Answering your support emails, and keeping this website available and secure.
- Consent. The location and notification permissions, which you grant on your device and can withdraw there at any time.
- Legal obligation. Records we are required by law to keep.
The data the app holds on your device is not processed by us at all. You control it directly, in the app.
How long we keep things
- On your device: until you delete the app, or delete the individual tag, place, contact or reminder in the app.
- Support emails: for up to 24 months after your question is resolved, in case you write again about the same thing.
- Subscription records: while the subscription is active, and afterwards where tax and accounting law requires it.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you have the right to access your personal data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it is used, ask for it in a portable form, and withdraw consent at any time.
For everything the app stores on your device, you exercise these rights yourself. Edit or delete tags, places, reminders and contacts in the app, or delete the app to remove all of it at once. We cannot do any of it for you, because we hold no copy.
For the little we do hold, meaning support correspondence and subscription status, email chronocontacts@prodevel.co.uk and we will respond within one month.
Transfers outside the UK
RevenueCat, Apple and Google operate internationally, so subscription checks may involve transfers outside the UK. RevenueCat is based in the United States and relies on the standard contractual clauses in its own terms. Apple and Google do the same for store transactions.
This website
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads no third-party scripts or fonts. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. Note that prodevel.co.uk itself does use analytics and does set cookies, so the company policy differs from this one on that point.
The site is served from our own hosting. The web server keeps standard request logs containing your IP address, browser user agent and the page requested, which we use to keep the site available and secure. Those logs are deleted after 30 days.
Deleting your data
Delete the app and the data it created (added-on dates, tags, places, activity timestamps and settings) goes with it. Your contacts are not touched. They belong to your device, not to ChronoContacts, including any notes you wrote, which are saved to the contact itself.
Children
ChronoContacts is not directed at children.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, tell us first at chronocontacts@prodevel.co.uk and we will try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK supervisory authority, at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this policy
If what the app does with data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Material changes will be flagged in the app or on this site before they take effect.
